Secondly, shouldn't 4GB of ram make even a pentium work out good?

It's just a weak processor.
I would spend the extra $ and look for an i3 or i5.

I looked for an i3 or i5, but the cheapest ones were in the $500-600 range, which is higher than my budget, which i wanted under $400. For my needs that i listed above, do u think i can do well with this one too, being that it does have a good 4GB of Ram, and 320GB HD?

You should be fine, I have a 3gb AMD Sempron and am managing just fine. You will have to keep your computer clean from junk/cr*pware

The processor is a core (pun intended) component. I think you could've done better.
