I saw another passenger interviewed on the news. He said initially the Dr and his wife offered to give up their seats until they were told that the next flight wasn't until 2:30pm the next day.

That's why he kept saying he had patients to see in the morning. They knew he would miss his appointments with his patients, and they forced him off anyway.

in my opinion this could have happened on AA, DL or united. they are all pretty much the same to me. all about profits and maximizing $ from each customer.

Possibly, but United is especially known for their customer service. They have a history of incidents.

I take issue with Dan's definition of Delta's demand for higher rates for interline with AA as greed. I would have called it arrogance. On the other hand, United's handling of this situation is pure greed. There would have definitely been a price point where they could have gotten volunteers.

I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

This +1000

UA just got unlucky that day, but the same thing would have happened on any other airline. Flying today is like buying soup from the soup nazi.
