Indeed.

Hopefully all of this will introduce some humility to the airlines, whose profits have boosted their arrogance, which in turn leads them to make the experience of dealing with them worse.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Forgive the dumb question but isn't the inherent competition of a free market economy supposed to provide natural checks and balances for this? If so what is going wrong here? Is it that aviation is so regulated? Can you explain this to me?

Checks and balances did not ensure that there are never abuses. The public backlash from this is likely much more powerful than anything a regulator could have done.

Free market at work here:

"Earlier on Wednesday, the chief executive of United Airlines said the carrier will no longer ask police to remove passengers from full flights after the uproar over the incident"

Huh? My question posited the very opposite. I was suggesting that regulation actually interferes with the natural self-correction of poor customer service in a true free market economy.

Just got off my DL flights and saw a UA employee on board. Apparently they are now offering their services on other airlines

That's because those blogs are in the business of click bait and catchy news stories, Dan is not.

I feel like Dan probably has something to add. It fits right in to his narrative about the industry consolidation benefiting the airlines over customers. More likely it's because it was over the chag and he's being badgered by all the new DDMS people in Whistler.  :)

Sounds like a heimishe car rental; that after having a car returned with a minor scratch; goes to the back with a sledgehammer.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.
