Alternatives to Connectify?
« on: April 23, 2017, 08:59:40 PM »
got used to using windows' hosted network on win7, to have phone etc. connect to computer

Now moved to win 10. Hurdle 1: hostednetwork driver was removed, need to install win8.1 driver. accomplished.
hurdle 2: no way to keep network on 'persistent', need to restart (via cmd (!)) every time wifi restarts

connectify lite is good, except it cuts itself off every 30 min and needs to be restarted.

Any connectify type software that anyone here used satisfactorily?

thanks

Tried using Windows 10 built-in Hotspot feature? You can turn it On in settings.

I've used in the past Virtual Router Plus (you can download it from Web Archives here, the official sites link seems to be broken) and Baidu WiFi Hotspot (here). But if it's the driver/service that turns Off, another user interface won't be any help, all of them use basically the same behind the scenes methods.

Oh, that's very old! (11 is the month and 15 is 2015) this feature arrived in 1607 (anniversary update). You should update to the latest version (1703, creators update). The easiest way is with the Update Assistant tool from Microsoft http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=799445

double surprise:
1-they don't force these on you automatically
2-the upgrade is actually worth taking
