I'm looking for a free WMA to MP3 converter that doesn't have spyware etc. and can also condense the output file (MP3) to be smaller.
I used to use Koyote but I can't seem to find a spyware free one for Windows 10.

Not necessarily. Just to occasionally convert 1-2 files.

Also, as soon as I click Job-Transcoding, it gives an error message.

Go to the audio tab on the left side of the bottom and choose MP3. I find the Helix encoder to work well. Uncheck "enabled" on the video tab, and on the container tab choose default.

What is the error message?

My guess is you would like mediacoder since it is extremely functional while being a bit techy on the interface.

I can't even open the program to check.
I get a message that the free version does not allow "multiple instances".

no clue never had that. Is it open more than once? Check in task manager

I closed it in task master. Followed your instructions. Same error message. I can't catch what is says as it quickly causes the program to shut-down.

It is. But what's so bad for it to be online based if you only need it occasionally? There's also this https://www.coolutils.com/Online/Audio-Converter/ or https://convertio.co/wma-mp3/ and more.
