If the voting is open or closed, I would add that I like the second one, as it also looks like a count down timer...hinting to the urgency of getting in on a deal before it expires.

DEFINITELY #1.  What a difference between the two.
#1 is a shtark, bold, strong exclamation of DANS DEALS!! (as in  "DansDeals is the place!")
#2 is softer, curvy, not emphatic (as in "Hey Guys, come on over and try out DansDeals")
I also like the capital 'D's in the spelled out words of DansDeals.  It adds to the boldness, authority, and stability of DansDeals as opposed to lower case 'd's which are softer, innocuous, and bland.

I was playing with the exclamation to make the winky more of a winky by making the exclamation  point a bit shorter and a bit curvy so it looked like a closed, winked eyelid.  The result softened the effect of the exclamation tremendously, probably too much.

I also was playing with moving the curve of the D closer to the exclamation so it didn't look so disjointed/unattached, but that took away from the winky face.

Movement both draws attention and will embed the winky, happy face idea into the mind by spelling out the association through the animation.  Nice.  With that animation you really could move the D's belly closer to the exclamation mark even more (on the D part of the animation).

If suggestions for the site are accepted I have a couple.

-When opening the navigation menu (on mobile) it covers the entire webpage,  I think it would be nicer to partially overlap the webpage rather than covering it.
- The deal tags like Hot deals, Dan's pick, ends tonight, etc. I would make them more prominent/bigger maybe next to the comments count and/or remove the text and just leave the icon.
-I think adding a deal alert option would be awesome.

Very nice indeed. But I would say make it smoother (by adding some transitional frames) rather than speed it up.

ETA: Maybe add a step to the animation, so it starts with the dot (symbolizing the basic deal) then expanding the lines (which is what differentiates Dan's Deals from any other deal site) and then end with the wink (smoother).

The idea was to have something like that for page load times instead of a box circling itself. But we are not going to do it before launch either way.
