$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Does anyone have any experience with Return Protection claims where Amex asks for a receipt? In this case does Amex send out an email or let you know in any way that they've received your documents? Or is the only way of knowing, calling them up?
Does Amex send an automated email letting you know they've received your Return Protection Claim documents (receipts)?
most likely

Your "most likely" doesn't make it seem like you have first hand experience. It sounds like you're just assuming. I'm simply trying to hear from someone who's done this before (send in receipts).

The only change in status is from documents requested to closed. The only time its ever changed to documents received was when I had to call about something and they manually changed it.  You can call to confirm that they got them. In fact, if they are still lagging (my claim submitted mid december took 4 weeks to close), you may receive another automated request for receipts about 2-3 weeks after you submitted. The automated system has some issues, but you can call them if you get that email and they will just say to disregard it.

What was your (return?) claim for and for what dollar amount? I assume small (<$100) return claims have still been closed very quickly, as usual, right?

I dropped my GoPro camera in water, by accident.  I paid $500 for it.

So it was actually a Purchase Protection claim then (?). On what date did they receive your documentation (receipts, etc)? Did they ask you to get a repair estimate or something verifying the gopro had been damaged?

Yes, it was a purchase protection claim. They confirmed the receipt of my claim on 1/2/2015.  They asked for a repair estimate from an authorized facility per the Original MFG Warranty. I contacted GoPro and they said the unit can't be repaired.  It is considered a disposable camera, because of its small package.  I had them e-mail that info and I faxed it to Amex. A week ago they said I could now use any shop to get an estimate for the repair.  I went to a local shop and they laughed in my face when I asked for an estimate to repair it.  They wanted to help me move this along so they charged me $20 to type up an estimate that clearly states the GoPro was water damaged and could not be repaired.  The only option is to replace the unit.  I faxed this additional document on 1/23/15.  I havenít heard anything since then.

Let's hear some stories.
-So, what's the "best" / most expensive item you've used Return Protection on and gotten to keep?

-What's your best Purchase Protection story? (e.g. Amex refunded you the cost of the item, didn't ask for it back, and then you got it fixed/replace for cheap/free or sold it).
