[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Yep I tried that :( , I know most major retailers can pull it up in their system.
ask the store for a handwritten receipt. maybe they have one of those old school books that make and automatic carbon copy.

If a store accept returns,  but makes you pay for the return shipping, will Amex  cover the shipping costs ?
nope

from a few pages back:
i wanted to do that with Next. they charge shipping fee to send back. i asked AMEX if they can refund the shipping charge. the CSR said, no, but just wait till their policy expires and file a claim! :)

I bought something online and had it shipped to the store- they told me initially they cannot cancel the purchase and refund it unless I physically show up in the store. I shipped it out of state to family, so obviously that wasn't going to happen. I find out now that after 60 days no pick-up they automatically cancel it.

I would be nervous that Amex will see the returned charge to your CC

Maybe call Amex and ask them?

If they felt it belonged to them they would have asked for it back.

It belongs to them but they don't feel like paying to ship it to them, so they are keeping it in your house

Submitted a claim for a toy set for $95 and got a response letter the next day that they are working on it and will let me know if they need anything else. In the past I've only gotten 2 response letters, either saying they closed the case, or asking for the itemized receipt. Could it be they're just busier this time of year and want to send something? I know reps said it takes 48-72 hours usually to request what they need, but that's never been the case for me.

We have assigned the above referenced claim number. If we need additional information to
process your claim, we will send a separate request."

I bought stuff on amazon to resell in eBay (was making money because of the amex offer  :) ) One of the items was sold to a hacked account. Any chance purchase protection will cover this as "stolen"?

doubtful. PUTPAC and ask? For stolen items they usually require police report.  Ebay isn't helping you here?

Nah. Was a digital code which isn't covered by seller protection. Didn't know that before I sold it. :(

Item costs 39.00 plus 9% tax. Paid 41.xx and another 1.xx leftover amazon credit. They denied because the full item must be purchased with the amex. Do I have a valid claim that the full price was on the amex - just the sales tax was with amazon credit? HUCA? Escalate? I've never done an RP before.

So the full amount was not on the amex.

Correct, but technically the full amount of the item was on the amex.

Correct, but technically the full amount of the item was on the amex.

Again, "technical" doesn't apply here as the matter of fact is that the full amount (the amount the item costs including handling, shipping and taxes) was not paid on the amex. Not saying you can't try to fight it and not saying they might not for some reason let it go through, just preparing you for the fact when they say that it's a No-Go.

But using your logic...if a store offered free shipping for purchases above 'x' dollars, that item shouldnt be claimable with amex since the shipping costs were not charged on the amex card
