[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Has anyone ever had had them take longer than a day to respond (48-72 hours) but NOT ask for a receipt and approve the claim? Or do they always ask for a receipt if they don't approve it the day you send it in?

Very common for them to ask for receipts. Does not mean you will or won't get approved.

Understood, but from experience if they say they need longer than the day you sent it in, you'll HAVE to send a receipt in (which will just make the process take that much longer). Was just wondering if anyone else had an experience different than mine.

Nah. A few RP claims, all legit. This was my first PP claim, also legit.
Update?

Log in to claims center and check status. Ime if it says pending receipt of documents you'll need to send them in.

Bought a TV from Walmart which was fulfilled through a third party. Third party did not let me return after 30 days. Amex credited me the funds. I did have to explain the situation to the adjuster though. I would recommend calling over filling it out online since they wrote more information down for me in the claim.

Yup have to send in receipt. I always wonder how they pick if you need a receipt or not, because most of the time under $100 requires no receipt, and this was my first submission in 2016. It was also shoes, not something out of the ordinary.

Bought a necklace in Israel. Store wouldn't take it back because it was a sell item.
Submitted the claim online and got the refund the next day.
Did not ask for receipt or to return the item.

Not a lot but at least a few. Does it carryover year to year? I always thought it started over again the following year.

They send a pdf letter anyway asking gang you to call in and ask the same questions. Reason for return, why won't store accept it and condition.

If the store charges a restocking fee for a refund but not for a store credit, can I do an RP claim?

probably not. at best you can get for the restocking fee. but generally store credit qualifies as reason for denial of claim.

If I file a claim and it gets denied, can I file the same claim again if I change around the reasons for the claim?

If I purchased an item for $570. Then I file RP and I am approved for the max of $300, do I need to accept it? If they want the item back it's not worth me taking a $270 hit! Can I wait and see if the expect the item back or not and then decide how to proceed?
