[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

If I purchased an item for $570. Then I file RP and I am approved for the max of $300, do I need to accept it? If they want the item back it's not worth me taking a $270 hit! Can I wait and see if the expect the item back or not and then decide how to proceed?
if they want it back are they going to come to your house and break in and steal it?

That's true. The worst they can do is reverse the credit... But I'm not looking to start up.

But did anyone ever have that they automatically credit $300 without asking for it back?

Anyone have experience with splitting RP claims for items on a single large purchase? I have several items that are part of a single purchased and would like to return since I haven't used them, but I'm past the merchant return window.

It seems to me like the ideal (in terms of getting refunded more quickly) thing to do would be to submit separate RP claims, made up of different low priced items, so that each RP claim (2-3?) is < $100. Any thoughts / issues/ experience with this?

Just checked the status of my claim online and it says closed but I don't see any way to see the result and haven't gotten an email. Anyone ever experience this? Do I need to call them to find out the result?

It usually takes 24 for the credit to show up, so there's a gap in the time from when it says closed till you actually see the credit.
I once called in to check the status and was told, "Your claim is closed, but actually for a good reason..." :)

Split it so that each claim is under 300.i once submitted claim for 2 items of 200 purchased same time and they actually split them into 2 claims for me. They said system can't handle totals over 300 so next time just split them up. They were both approved.

I see, but seeing as totals under $100 seem to to be approved within a day or two, I figured it would make sense to sit things up into buckets under $100 in order to get reimbursed quickly.

Even under $100 it varies.
I recently had to wait a month for a $30 claim.

They are consistently strict about even less obvious t&c.
