AMEX Return Protection: Did They Make You Return The Item?

Ha anyone ever been asked to call Amex after faxing in a receipt? My latest claim seemed pretty standard. I filed it online and immediately faxed in the receipt. A day or two later I got a call from Amex asking me basically the same questions I filed out online (date of attempted return, item condition, etc). Then, just the other day I received a pdf via email from Amex telling me they had received my RP documentation and that they needed additional documentation. However the additional documentation listed just said to call them at 800-xxx-xxxx.

Anyone have experience with this? I've filed a few claims this year.

Standard protocol.

+1 they sent me a letter and PDF saying they need documentation... I had already called and faxed it in. I called back and they just went over the details again. Approved the next day

I purchased something and want to apply the Amex return protection for it since it was final sale, however I just realized the online retailer included a 27 cent store credit I guess I had remaining in my account automatically.  Otherwise the purchase was made in full with the Amex. Will this still qualify for return protection or am I SOL?

Not so sure - i've used it when promo codes were involved and it shows as instant savings or discount or the like. You never know. Depends on the receipt and what the adjuster decides

My friend ordered something on Amazon and without him noticing it drained his Amazon credit he had left for just under $2.

They denied him because of it.

I know officialy amex will not accept returns if the card was cancelled ( in mycase it was cancelled half a year ago) but is there a point in trying?

ummmm, if the card was cancelled half a year ago then, by definition, you are past the 90 day return protection window.
Therefore, to answer your question, no, there is no point in trying. Even if the card was open.

How expensive was the item? Sometimes I'd it's under $100 they'll just refund you without asking for a receipt.

got a $249 credit for a suit, (which i was prepared to send to them should they have asked me to, but) they didnt ask me to return it to them.
