[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Does anyone have any experience with filling too many claims? I don't know if they have any specific threshold to flag an account but thought if anyone had any experience on that part.

I have the Amex Platinum and last year I filed 1 purchase protection and 1 return protection claim. Now after renewing this year, within 1 month I lost a pair of sunglasses and I was wondering if I should eat up the loss or file a claim and risk being flagged for raising too many claims within a short period.

I don't want to risk being flagged for a less than $100 pair of sunglasses, would rather save the claim for something more valuable.
Don't know why. But I always felt bad filing a claim.

For example I purchased a pair of pants and tailored it and all for $70+

All it took was for me to use the restroom once after the cleaning crew came and had my pants filled with speckles from the bleach, let alone the pants are a month old and it's a stretch pants and the pockets are tearing in the edges as I'm literally stretching my pockets when putting stuff in and out.

I'm paying $250 for the amex gold card which I think is an overkill.

What's your take? File a claim? Probably should.

Don't feel bad. It's one of the benefits of the card and the reason you pay an annual fee. Do you feel bad using the lounges?

Does an authorized user have another $1000 limit for return protection claims or does it count for the primary cardholder $1000 cap?

I'd assume it counts towards the primary. No dp though.

On one of the lower end cards dan wrote that it gives the au an additional $1,000.
Was wondering if it also applies for the platinum....?

I had the same problem for the past two or three days, but as of five minutes ago, that message was gone, and I was able to upload my claim documents just as in the past. Hopefully you will, too!

Platinum it will depend on what level the AU is. If green or gold then no return protection and if platinum yes

Yeah lol. I didn’t know about this, and it’s a little interesting that Dan wrote it in such a casual way... especially after the fact that he wrote that it’s his favorite benefit... that’s why I’m trying to confirm...

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. In two different claims over the past two months, it took about a week for them to e-mail me the paperwork to fill out, and then the approval took a week and a half to two weeks after I uploaded the documentation that they requested. I'm not sure if this is the "new normal" for them, or if they've just temporarily fallen behind, but until last month, I never had the approval process take more than a week.

I miss the 48 hour turnaround back in September or so
