[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

I was having the same problem the past two days, but I was just able to upload my claims documents about five minutes ago, so hopefully that means they've fixed whatever the problem was.

Is it a bad idea to maximize this benefit every year on every card I have?

How do you maximize insurance claims unless you don't endup buying and trying to return alot or do file claim on purpose, which amounts to fraud.

I try to keep my claims as minimal or only when utmost necessary, I don't want to flagged for any reason by Amex.

I'm definitely flagged by Amex for consistently buying expensive, fragile children's clothing. They must be wondering about my judgement ability.

Really depends on your spend/return ratio. Do you spend a lot on the card annually and file only 1 return per year or do you buy 1 expensive item per year and then file for ret. protection?

I've maximized it on every card I have each year for the last 3-4 years and never had an issue. Some cards I do a lot of spending - some only for the return protection

Did RP on a $300 item, seems like AMEX no longer reimburses sales tax over $300 like they used to.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Does anyone know what year a return credit is applied to, when ordered in one year but charge hit Amex in the next?

I had an Amazon order made on 12/30/2020, but the charge didn't hit Amex until 1/3/2021.
I received a return credit on the order. Did this hit my 2020 $1K limit or my 2021 $1K limit?

Adding the terms say "$1,000 per Card Member account per
calendar year based on the date of purchase, not during the year the claim was filed."

The question here is what do they consider the date of purchase?

The date of the order, or the date on the credit card statement? I can see the order detail from Amazon shows the 12/30/20 order date, but also shows the 1/3/21 credit card transaction date.
It looks like Amazon did not charge until they shipped it. So it appears to me it likely hits my 2021 limit. (I had limit available in 2020 which I would rather and intended that it hit 2020.)

I'm looking to buy an item with my amex preferred and get return protection but the merchant is cash only. They are happy to revive money at their PayPal E-mail address. If I send the money to the email address from the card and say it's for goods and services will it have return protection?
Tia!
