[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Same receipt would be $300 max

It's per item, nothing to do with the receipts

Yeah agreed, I think it's per item (and there's also a calendar year limit too):

It's per claim.

He can try making two claims but I don't see how Amex will approve two separate claims for two identical items that are on the same receipt

I've done over $300 on a single claim since it was multiple items.

Wrong. Why does everyone in this thread keep talking about how they don't see how Amex will or won't do something, stop making assumptions, either speak from experience or just quote the terms and say TARB if you don't know.

Yup just double checked the terms I was wrong.

Man how many years I've been limiting myself to 300 per claim

Haha, I posted a screenshot, just a few posts prior, directly from the terms showing that it was $300 per item.

If a merchant has this return policy

"you have a full 365 days to return it for a refund! All Goods must be unused, in a saleable condition and in their original packaging with all labels still attached."

Does this qualify for Amex RP if the merchant rejected the return due to not having original packaging & labels?

So I ran into a similar situation a long time ago with Chase RP. They made me get a letter from the merchant (which was a PITA to obtain) stating that they were refusing the return. Once I did eventually get that letter they covered it.

Obviously Chase and Amex are different companies so no guarantees that it will work the same way.

If not in original packaging , why not?
Amex doesn't require that

I think efflpetzel is more concerned with Amex saying to him "the merchant's website says you have 365 days to return this item, therefore it is not eligible for RP since you can just handle the return directly with the merchant"

efflpetzel will then have to explain to them "yes i understand it is still within the 365 day window BUT the merchant won't accept it due to lack of original packaging"

Do closeout or open box sale items come under return protection? I purchased a table from Wayfair and that arrived slightly damaged but looks like there is no return since it was a closeout sale item and now I can't return. I know that going out of business sale items are not allowed, so do final sale or close out item also fall under it?

So long as it was not a going out of business sale I think you'll be fine. Go ahead and file the claim.

I would call wayfair. They are very understanding and fair.

Yeah that's good advice as well, I've only had to deal with them once in the past, but they were indeed fair
