[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Does anyone know if return protection is based on the purchase date of the item or the date when the merchant actually charged the card?

I've got an item that was ordered on November 29th, but not billed until December 7th because that's when it was shipped.

Purchase Date. It's listed in the T&C.

I purchased an item and paid partially with gc, and with Amex CARD. I filed an RP claim and it's being denied because "the full purchase amount must be paid for with Amex..."

Has anyone run into that before? I'm only trying to claim RP on the part paid with Amex...

It’s in the t&c. They only cover if paid in full with amex card

Yeah, I've noticed that I'm getting my claims approved within a couple of days now, as opposed to the two full weeks or longer that it was taking in the first few months of this year. Progress!  :)

I got denied for a watch as they are excluded in T&C but it seems some people were successful despite the exclusion. Is there any point or harm in trying again and maybe get lucky this time?

Is this a fairly new restriction? I did several watches back in 2019, Apple, Garmin, Samsung, Fitbit, all were approved at the time. These were all smart watches if that makes a difference.

Edit: to answer my own questions. I see from searching this forum that watches were restricted prior to 2019. People like myself have had smart watches covered.

Is the watch you are trying for a smart watch?

I've also had a couple of smart watches approved this past year...one of which, incidentally, was ordered from Amazon.fr but delivered of course to my U.S. address (just an added data point that orders from suppliers outside the U.S. do get approved as long as the billing address and delivery address are in the U.S.). My impression is that they handle smart watches--which are an electronics item, not a traditional watch with traditional watch pieces--as completely different from plain, old-fashioned "watches". Not sure why, but that seems to be the case according to the T&C and forum members' experiences.

After that brief spell, looks like it’s back to being very slow again…

I had a claim for rechargeable batteries (including the charger) denied several years ago. Apparently, they treat rechargeable batteries the same as regular batteries, which are listed as not eligible for Return Protection in the T&C.

Can I file an RP claim on a purchase that was made on an AU card that has since been canceled?

ETA: I see the wiki says YMMV.

I just looked at my old receipts for ebay items I have bought and see they don't show whether the item was new or not, but they were all approved. You could always screenshot the listing page showing it is new.

Anyone ever been questioned for proof of new or not?
LOL, since I see new or not isn't shown on the receipt I may actually try it on a used item.
