[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Does anyone max out their $1k every year? If so, do they become more strict after doing it more often?

Does anyone have experience with RP when item must be sent back(specifically Cap1)? Will an item not be accepted if it isn't in original packaging?

I returned a pair of sneakers to Cap 1, but we warned that the process was a lot more difficult than dealing with Amex. Cap 1 uses a third party company and the communication with them is horrible.

Also, the 3rd party they use, Card Benefit Services aka Asurion, defines 12-month purchase year as 3/1/2033 - 2/28/2024 and so on. It does not end in calendar year at 12/31 like AMEX.

The tracking information is always listed on Amazon.com on your Order Details page, and if you click on the number (it's right around the middle of the Order Details page), it'll open the shipment details from shipping to delivery, and if you click again on the number in that window, it'll take you to the FedEx, UPS, or USPS page for your tracking number. BUT--and this is a big BUT!--it seesm to go away after three or four months, so make sure to print that (or take a screenshot of it) BEFORE the 90-day mark (probably a good thing to do by default for any item that you might be even remotely considering submitting a Return Protection claim for. I know you only asked about Amazon.com, but eBay also displays the tracking number as long as the merchant you bought it from uploaded it to your account. 99.9% of merchants do upload that information right away (even before actually dropping the package off, since they get the tracking number when they pay for the shipping using their eBay merchant account), but I got (un)lucky buying something a few months ago, the merchant never uploaded the tracking number, so it still says "Awaiting shipment" four months later. I messaged the merchant via eBay, and they messaged me the tracking number, but I'm waiting to see if AmEx is going to accept that (I guess if worse comes to worse, AmEx Assurance can call the merchant to verify that the details I've given them are correct).

You can always request order information via the data link on the amazon site. it shows tracking there. Can also get it from chat reps.

For screenshot of amazon not returned the amaozm order page is the receipt I always used and also shows that return window closed. I assume that's what you did too?

It shouldn't matter if you are actually trying to claim things properly. Your impatience and question are more of a sign of why they are requesting these things now.

Does Amex shut down for high percentage of returns?
I have one card that I only kept open for the rp benefit. I only use it for purchases that may need to be returned. I realized that aprox 50% of my purchases last year were returned.

Ok, first and only claim! I got denied! Reason..."During the month of October 2019, AMEX Assurance Company sent you a notification in your statement
informing you that effective 01/01/2020, Return Protection was no longer a benefit on your American Express Card. Therefore, purchases made on or after 01/01/2020 are not eligible for this benefit.".....Why? I had a Hilton Amex Aspire Card! They took forever to do the claim so about 3 days before this letter I did downgrade my card. Does it not qualify if I downgrade the card before the claim is approved? Thought I read you can close it before approved but maybe downgraded is a no no to get approved? Or what did I do wrong?

This is ridiculous. A screenshot of every return since the order was placed?
Not to mention amazon returns only show the last 2 months
