[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

I submitted a claim and have received response back asking for pictures, etc.
They didn't ask about payment method.
I don't have final resolution as of yet.

It would be great to hear how your claim turns out. I asked the same question a couple months back, and nobody seemed to have an answer. Technically, I would think that a PayPal claim should work fine because even if you use PayPal to process the payment, it should still qualify as using an AmEx card to pay in full for the purchase...but it would be great to have an actual data point confirming this. Thanks!

Would return protection cover something that I'd have to pay return shipping?

Meaning to say that they'll take it back but you have to pay the return shipping and you prefer not to? If so, the answer is no.

You can try to file a claim to try to get that shipping fee back claiming it's a restocking fee but be prepared for that to be a 50/50 chance of getting approved.

They came back and asked for itemized store receipt. I had already sent the Ebay order details, so I resent it to them again. Not sure if they are looking for something other than that.
They also asked for proof the item was listed as new. I sent them a screenshot of that.

It is taking forever now for Amex responses.

I heard it is taking them much longer on other things such as offer credits etc as well.

I just got an email today about a credit for my claim. Noticed that they have been asking for much more documentation and pictures than ever, and that it takes a long time to get each piece of communication.

Maybe indeed
my 4 duplicate claims crashed their system :D
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Thanks for sharing. Please do let us know how this turns out! I once had a claim approved that I submitted more than 90 days after purchase, and I only attempted that after reading here that others had had success doing the same thing. It'll be interesting to find out if this is just a fluke, or if they're getting stricter with their policies now!

They denied my reconsideration. And it was from a very formal letterhead. Said because the notification to them wasn't received within 90 days, it's rejected. Looks like they are really clamping down...

Any DP on if Primary card member can file a RP claim for something an AU purchased, and have it count toward primary card member yearly limt?

Situation leading to this question: Previous DP indicates AU get their own $1000/yr limit. I believe this is true, but if the AU has a separate card with RP the limit for that AU is $1000 total across all Amex cards.

For example;
P1 and P2 both have Plat Cards. P2 is AU on P1 Plat Card.

P2 limit for all RP claims is $1000 per year, not $1000 on P2 plat and $1000 on P1 AU Plat card.

That was my experience based on a recent claim.

Thanks very much for the update. It's great to now have a recent DP confirming that PayPal purchases do qualify for RP!

Yes it was very strange. They partially paid the claim (most was over the $1000 limit) and even though the purchase was on AU card, they actually credited the amount to P2 primary card.

I think I would chalk that up as being some sort of Amex error.

They did that to me one time, placing the claim amount into the claim year instead of the purchase year, which I didn't argue with them on.

I think these adjusters can make a mistake at times.

Did they stop the return protection on the American express marriott card? I want to file  return protection a claim and I followed the link and a can't file a return protection claim. There was 3 kinds of claims that I could do. 1. Baggage claim 2. Extended warranty  3. Purchase protection.  I really want to file a return protection claim but I don't see that choice. Is it still possible to do a return protection or did they take away that benefit? I brought a lot of clothing for my kids from a company that I never used before and the fit is terrible.  I really don't want these clothing.  I missed the return date.

+1. The refund shows up as amex return protection and is actuaally paid out by amex assurance company. does not impact any offers savings.

So you can end up making money from this? Ie offer statement credit + refund for return?

I tried doing using return protection and the link I have does not work. Does anyone have a good link for return protection or a good number to call? I have the marriott Amex card.

Try Purchase protection instead
