[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

I got my response after a week.

I finally did, too, after seven or eight days from the time that I submitted the claims. Two were approved outright (one for under $100, one for under $200), but for the third, which was over $200, they requested the usual evidence.

Also, just to follow-up on what I wrote before about them putting claims into a "dormant" status if you don't submit the requested documentation within 60 days, I finally found the letter that they sent me a couple years ago when I let one of my claims lapse. The first paragraph reads as follows:

"Your claim has been placed in a closed status as we did not receive the required Proof of Loss documentation needed to proceed with your claim. We will not send you any additional correspondence on this claim. Please note that your claim has not been denied; however, in order to re-open your claim, we need you to provide Proof of Loss documents as described below. Upon our receipt and review of this information, we will be in a better position to make a determination regarding your claim."

Just FYI for anyone who hasn't experienced that before!

Had the same thing. The first time I can remember that I had a claim for over $100, (almost 200) that has been approved outright.

They're asking for proof of the return attempt. I don't know how I can prove that I called the store and they won't allow returns after the 14 day policy.

Did anyone get such a request?

Insurance companies are funny, I would call the store, get the name of the person I spoke to, write up the conversation, with date and time, sign it and submit. Good chance they accept it.

Two questions:

1) Are folks finding that Amex is asking for more documentation than normal even for small claims (e.g. less than $75)
2) How long is it taking for you guys to get your claims processed. I have claims where I submitted all requested documentation more than 10 days ago and yet they still haven't issued a verdict.

1) - seems that happens when you are closer to the last $75 from the $1000 limit vs the 1st $75
2) - post extended holiday return season. Claims taking quite some time now

I’m considering purchasing an item from an international seller on eBay using PayPal and my Amex Platinum. If I decide not to keep it but don’t have time to return it within the seller’s return window, would Amex’s return protection cover the purchase?

T&C states: "Purchases must be made in the 50 United States of America, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Palau, Guam and Northern Mariana Islands and charged in full on your eligible Card"

Any tricks for dealing with this error message when trying to submit a claim: "Sorry, our system is not responding. Please try your request again later."

I tried an incognito window, but that didn't work either.

yeah I've always had this but it always really went through, The way to know that it went thru is you go back into your benefits, then return protection and click "file a new claim" and you'll see the claim open there at the top of the list of your claims, and you can always do this and then you dont actually file the claim, just X out the page.

As long as it was purchased and shipped to the United States, you should be fine.

Yes, drones and smart watches work.

A friend tried this and it kept getting held up, finally the rep on the phone told him "if you can explain how this radar detector can be used not in a car I'll approve the claim for you" so my friend is like well I can use it on my bicycle.... anyways he got denied

I tried doing using return protection and the link I have does not work. Does anyone have a good link for return protection or a good number to call? I have the marriott Amex card.

1-800-228-6855 - they always pick up within 3 minutes.

Yeah, the purchase is technically made in the US, but being shipped from outside the US. That is why it wasn’t clear to me.
