$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

I want to keep the item after I file a return. Is the better option to file online or call?
If you want to keep it then you do not qualify for return protection. DOI!!! :P

I filed online for a printer as it past returnn period, then I got a call from AMEX and was told if the printer is not brand new/unopened then I  can't file for return protection, anyone else had this problem before. When asked I told amex the box was opened but I don't like the function of the printer. And AMEX suggest me to call regular customer service to dispute credit charge., isn't this weird??

All items filed for return protection has to be brand new in unopened/unused condition, or was I just lucky enough to get a special agent?

Thanks!

all have to be in new condition. You can open it but have to be able to repack it so it looks new. its in the terms. I called about a game once and they said its ok if it was opened but never used (like out of the shrink wrap).

Thanks, and just called Amex again and got clarification the first rep told me was wrong, as long as the item is in like new condition it is eligible for return protection, it does not have to be unopened/brand new.

Submitted a claim for a man's suit a month ago and been looking on the site for several days which says the claim is "closed." However, haven't received an email telling me I get my money back or to send it in. How long between when the online system says "closed" and me getting some info? Called but rep said the claims side handles all of that and that no one gets to talk directly to claims.

The phone reps should be able to give you some info. Usually I get credit within a couple days of the claim closing

Is the protection per card or per user? If I have 4 cards, is that 1k/year x4?

Anybody ever try to return eyeglasses? I wonder if that falls under custom or health care items that are not covered?

I received my $ back immediately and next day recieved email that case closed. Does that mean I don't have to send the item back or they may still tell me they want it back?

Not true!! I did return protection on glasses I bought that I didn't like. When they asked for reason merchant won't take it back I said because it the perscription was filled. I recieved a letter that my claim was denied because exclustion of custom made items- which rep told me would include perscription glasses
Put in a claim for my 300$ glasses I bought that I wasn't sure if I liked them. Week
Later I recieved  300$ credit- no return required

My understanding is it's per card, i.e. 1K for SPG, 1K for PRG, 1K for BRG, 1K for EDP. however, 99 users 99,000.

Seeing as how some of the veterans on this thread have been doing RP for years, the aggregate amount paid out may have already exceeded $99,000.

Anyhow, we're all thankful for AMEX have such a great program and great service. We get to try products out and then return them if we don't like them. Pretty cool.
