[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

What should I put in as the purchase price of the item? The amount I paid, or the amount I'm claiming for the restocking fee?
The amount you paid.

Amex wants an itemized receipt. That means I have to actually return the items, right?

Not necessarily, the procedure for refunding the restocking fee is very unclear. I would try to get in touch directly with your adjudicator and explain the situation to him/her.

According to the T&Cs, the purchase has to be made in the US (or a few other places,) will they cover a purchase made in another currency if it was made online from the US but not charged in USD?

Anyone know if you can use Amex Purchase Protection in a case where you leave a phone in a cab? I left my phone in a cab and realized that without 1-2 minutes. I called the phone and tracked it's location. I also set it to lost mode and put a message on it / made it ring. I could follow the phone's location for a while until they turned it off. Really hope I'm not out $900 dollars :(.

I pay my bill with a Wells Fargo card that has cell phone protection. It covers damage and theft. I'm just wondering if my case does indeed count as theft. I definitely view it as theft.

Quite sure leaving a phone in a taxi will be classified as loss, not theft, especially if you haven't tracked down the cab driver.

I read a post here stating that they deny a claim if you used a coupon on the item?  I have used them in the past but don't recall that happening.  Is that actually a problem?  I don't understand why they would do that, I do know they won't refund you for a coupon or gift card balance, they would just credit you what was charged to your card.

Also will they refund an new item from an ebay store?  Or does it have to be a major store?

The whole item has to be charged to the card, a discount code is fine but if you use a GC for part of the purchase them they can deny it.
New item from eBay should covered.
