$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

My Ipad recently broke in year 2 of ownership. One phone call to amex and 600 dollars were credited to my account!
Was that using the warranty protection?

Called Amex yesterday to return a $70 skirt. I just looked and see a $70 credit on my SPG card!

Most stores accept a return for a store credit if you dont have the receipt, Acc to Amex if the store will accept the return for a store credit, the Return Protection doesnt apply

BestBuys return policy is 30 Days. So if its after that (before 90 days) you shouldnt have a problem making the Amex claim. Call them, you only need the receipt if they want you to send in documents, which seems like usually they dont require

They should, But according to the Amex policy item has to be in like new condition

Just called amex about my broken canon camera from best buy, purchased a drop over a year ago. They asked a few questions about the problem with it, the serial #, etc. and then credited my account within a week!! I did not have to send back the camera, (though it has no use)!

Sounds more like a dispute than a situation for return protection.
