[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Call the store or amex?
I paid less than the prices on their website- was a one day sale but the clothing did not fit. I doubt the store has itemized details

The store. Amex doesn't care about the cc receipt, they can see the total charge on your card. They only accept itemized store receipts for return protection. Learnt my lesson the hard way once when I didn't have a store receipt and couldn't get a refund.

Always take a picture of your receipts and store somewhere safe.

The problem here is that the store used a calculator to tally the total and gave no receipt other than the print out from the cc terminal.

100% - wasn't a solution to that problem. Was a general life tip.

I personally always push the salesperson for an itemized invoice, and trained DW to do the same.

Filed return protection on clothing bought from a local store. They asked for an itemized receipt but the store only gave me the credit card slip with a total (guy added everything with a calculator- no pos system). I uploaded that and they are still asking for itemized receipt. Do I type one up or call them?
Why don't you ask the store owner to write it down (or type it) on store stationary (or just create your own letterhead for them.)

All they want is proof from the store that the amount your claiming for is the amount you paid for that item.

That may make the store nervous that you are planning to dispute the charge
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

have return protection claims been taking longer lately? filed 1/6, uploaded documentation 1/7, normally get the result within 2 days, but still haven't heard anything.

thanks for the response, this was helpful! wasn't impatient, just wanted to make sure that the longer wait wasn't indicative of issues on my part, or overuse of the RP, since i filed a few times the past year.

Anyone have experience with an item that was partially discounted due to a trade in (like cell phone)?

is the 300 per item limit a limit on item per se or on order? meaning i want to return two items from an order for $250 each, will that be fine?

Does anyone have any experience with filling too many claims? I don't know if they have any specific threshold to flag an account but thought if anyone had any experience on that part.

I have the Amex Platinum and last year I filed 1 purchase protection and 1 return protection claim. Now after renewing this year, within 1 month I lost a pair of sunglasses and I was wondering if I should eat up the loss or file a claim and risk being flagged for raising too many claims within a short period.

I don't want to risk being flagged for a less than $100 pair of sunglasses, would rather save the claim for something more valuable.

I have maxed out return protection on all my cards for at least 3 years and never had an issue

Thanks for the reply. I figured it was best to check on other experiences before I pull the trigger on filing a claim.
