[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

They once denied something for being used, I had thought it was new,  I believe they must have checked the listing, which did state used.

Can I file an RP claim on a purchase that was made on an AU card that has since been canceled?

ETA: I see the wiki says YMMV.

If you mean that only the AU card has been cancelled, but the (main) credit/charge card account itself is still open, then it shouldn't be a problem. If the entire account has been cancelled, then the T&C state that you won't be able to use any of the card's benefits including Return Protection.

Do I have to prove somehow that it's a new item, if yes how do I do that?
Thanks allot

(1) Ebay is not a problem. The T&C state that items bought at "auction sites" are ineligible, but this doesn't seem to apply to eBay.

(2) When filing a claim, you don't have to prove anything. When submitting your documents, you have to check a box stating what condition the item is in. As you already know, the item must have been New when you bought it, and it must still be in New condition when you submit your claim. If you bought it from a store that doesn't sell used items, then the first half of that shouldn't be a problem, and for items purchased online or from stores that do sell used items, I'd imagine that they might ask for a screenshot of the eBay listing or order details, or from Amazon, or from the store. I've never had them go that far, though (although I always include a screenshot of those things just to make the process go faster, instead of them coming back and asking me for them after my initial submission). As for the condition of the item at present, I've never had them ask me for proof, but I'd imagine that they could, and along with that is asking for you to return the item so they could check it themselves, which I've never had happen and rarely seems to happen to anyone else on this forum.

Did anyone here have amex request for pics of the item in a rt claim?

Anyone know why they're asking for pics?

Tyvm

I just had this happen to me. Did it go okay for yours? Mine says take pictures of all angles. The items are home goods.

I am pretty sure warranty protection continues even if you have cancelled the main card. I think you still have coverage as long as you still have some other Amex card. Also confirmed through thread here. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-express-membership-rewards/1163921-extended-warranty-after-card-cancellation-but-still-holding-another-card.html

I currently have a warranty claim in process for a card I closed many years ago. The item had a 3 year warranty and failed in the 4th year. No problem submitting the claim via phone, but no approval as of yet.

Interesting...I did not know that. Please come back and update the thread when you receive a decision on your claim!

Anybody tried return protection for online purchase with Canadian company?  The restrictions list purchase must be made in the US, but if it's online, does the store have to be in the US?

I was successful in using Return Protection for an item purchased from Amazon.fr (my shipping and billing addresses were in the U.S., though), and I seem to remember at least one other person being successful in using it from the U.S. to order something from another country, so you should be fine as long as your shipping and billing addresses are in the U.S.

I don't see any exclusions for that in the T&C so you should be good

my question if it falls under 21

"21. motorized vehicles (including, but not limited to, cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, and airplanes), their parts and accessories (e.g. car battery) as well as those parts and accessories intended for use with the motorized vehicles (e.g. a trailer or audio or visual components)"

I've never tried car seats, but a claim of mine was denied for a code-reading machine. I thought that it might end up getting approved since a battery-operated gadget that you plug in to the car to read the "check engine" code (1) isn't permanently affixed to the car, (2) isn't an item that is required for making a car run, and (3) is far from "a trailer or audio or visual components", but they didn't see it that way. So my guess is that if a code-reading machine is considered "accessories intended for use with the motorized vehicles", then car seat covers would probably be viewed by them in the same way...but do let us how how it turns out if you decide to give it a try! :-)

Interesting. It's things like this that really show the truth of "YMMV". After my experience having that engine code reader claim denied, I don't think I'll try anything else car-related, but obviously, if someone has already purchased an item, it doesn't hurt to try claiming it. And by the way, I can't figure out how to edit my previous posts, but I did catch my error in referring to "car seat covers" when the topic was actual car seats, not covers. Sorry about that!

Is the $300 max item cost before or after tax?
