$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

No. In the past I paid $314 I only got back $300 and had to send the item back, at my expense. I wrote about last July when it happened.

You could always dispute the full amount of the charge  if it broke,
But return protection only covers till 300$ for a total of 1000$ a year.

Ok it seems there's some confusion about my question as nobody answered the actual question yet and just dealing with the side points. Simple I bought an iPad for $500 and wanted to know if I used return protection I know I would only receive $300 back. Was wondering that since I paid more would they refund $300 and let me keep it.

So again, as has been said here many times in this thread:

You MAY receive $300 back as per the T&C, but it's YMMV as whether you'll be allowed to keep the item. Seeing as it's $500 iPad, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I don't have the terms and conditions in front of me. Cmiiw return protection doesn't apply to perishable items....so imho No from all aspects.
