Who wrote the text for Shabbos and Yom tov Kiddush?
« on: May 01, 2017, 10:37:40 PM »
Also, are there any commentators or seforim that discuss the meaning of the text (not straight translation but deeper meaning, assuming there is)

Thanks

The Kiddush was written by Rabbis Ari S. Rosen, and Rabbi Flow, who also undeniably wrote Yedid Nefesh. Historical scholars now believe that they finished their work on the prayer around the year 1568 before releasing it to the public. It did not truly catch on until the early 17th century. However, some believe that Rabbis Schiller and Singman contributed to the writing of the prayer as well, much like the Yedid Nefesh.

Do we know who wrote that wiki article? I guess a reliable source would be good (unless that wiki is written by a reliable source)

What? Are you joking? And regarding Yedid Nefesh, everyone knows who wrote that.

Someone's must have deliberately done that.

Yedid Nefesh Wikipedia text has the same text inside, saying that it "This poem is commonly attributed to the sixteenth century kabbalists Rabbi Flow and Rabbi Ari S. Rosen" yet it says it was published in "Sefer Charedim", in the references it bring: "Rabbi Flow and Rosen (France 160o), Sefer Charedim " yet right after that it references: "Chwat, Dr. Ezra (June 29, 2010). Who wrote the poem Yedid Nefesh", which brings more accurate information.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Thanks for updating.

Seems like someone is either bored or on some type of a "mission". See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/74.94.109.157

Is there a way to get that person stopped/banned?

Keeps up inserting that nonsense.

Is this some kind of SEO trick the guy is trying to do?

You could report the guy to the moderators and editors. He can get banned if enough people report him.

I don't know how that's done on Wikipedia.

Only Rabbi Schiller can be found via Google, the other three names mentioned appear to be fictitious...

Whoever did these Wikipedia edits seems to be from Chicago (anyone surprised?) and if I had to guess, is a teenager. Other edits from the same source seem to be related to Chicago area jewish schools. Wouldn't be surprised to find out if the Rabbis named happen to be in the staff of Chicago area schools.
