I had a similar story with Avis. I got a 250 shekel parking ticket...wasn't any sign that said no parking but cop gave me a ticket anyway.

I called up the parking police people (yeah just made that up) and the lady asked if I was american. I said yes. She said just don't pay it and after 3 months we'll send the bill to avis and ask them to pay.

They will send us a letter saying it was a renter's fault and we will then cancel the ticket! They may then charge you a handling fee of 70 shekel for the trouble. This is what she told me herself!

V'kach hava - so it was!

Wow, thats interesting. So did they charge you the 70 Shek fee?

I rented from Budget (not Avis), does that make any difference?

I dont remember if i even got hit w/ the 70 shekel but its a lot better than 250

some companies make you sign a  waiver allowing them to charge you the full amount of the ticket, budget does this i believe and maybe hertz really just depends

good luck!

I got a 500 Shek ticket for parking on the sidewalk on Malchei Yisrael. I got another ticket last Pesach time in Teveria for letting my meter expire. Both were rental cars. Both times I sent the ticket back in the mail and requested to fight it. They never got back to me for the 500 shek ticket. With regards to the Teveria ticket (I think it was 100 shek) they got back to me and said that they will send me a court date. They haven't yet. I think it helps when you write that you're American, and your license if from the US. that all = 0 shek paid, (the car rental never charged me either.) Wait a sec. I paid 3.60 or wtvr 2 stamps cost to mail the tickets back;)

Speeding Ticket in Israel
« Reply #23 on: June 03, 2013, 04:34:16 PM »
A friend asked me to ask around this:
An Israeli friend of mine got a speeding ticket the other day and asked me if i wouldn't mind giving him my NY driver licence number and ID to give to the police to file a report the reason for this he says is because the points wont go on his licence. (I don't understand how this makes any sense how you can do this if I wasn't driving but he claims that he can) {this is all a quote from my friend}

Does this make any sense at all?

on occasion speeding tickets in israel are givin like red light camera tickets , they will have 2 officers in a car ( considered witness ) and clock u over te speed limit and will go ahead and send a ticket to the plate on the car which is sent to the owner of the vehicle , which in that case they can nominated a driver that was driving

Yes it makes sense. When I was in yeshiva in AUS locals would quite often come looking for bochrim with US licenses to put there speed camera tickets on.

just a little tip, make sure they actually pay the ticket , I have heard of Israelis assuming that as long as its on your license its fine.
It seems they will on after you if u actually do receive a ticket

My friend just got a 500 shek parking ticket in Jerusalem.  He's an American citizen, car is registered under his name. He has a mere Israeli driver's license.  Shud he pay the ticket?

If he committed an infraction, he is responsible to pay the penalty. Why is there a question? Doesn't he "LUVISRAEL" like you?

I've also encountered this. You still have to pay the fine so I asked what was the point. The guy explained that he doesn't mind to pay the fine but doesn't want it to go on his records. It can lead to a suspension very quickly. I was going to do it but then a friend of mine said he once heard that sometimes they have the picture of the driver. If I were to get caught then I probably would be in a lot of trouble myself. Maybe others have had other experiences but I didn't do it because of that.
