Topic Wiki

If your video is not embedding, see if your link starts with "http:" - if it does, change it to "https:" and it will work.

If a video isn't embedded you should assume it may be inappropriate for some people.

How do I embed a Youtube video?
Simply post the YouTube URL.
Alternately (actually, this may no longer work):
Click the "youtube" button on the second row on the furthermost left side.
You will now have the words: in your editor.
Now, copy and paste the youtube video id (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0&x=y) in between the middle brackets in order for it to look like this:

and leave out this part of the link: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v="

Or you can paste the YouTube link, highlight it, and then click on the "YouTube" button. This will encase the link in the youtube tags,
Now just click "post" and you're done!

How can I search if a video has been posted here before?
This is not foolproof, but it's a good start.
Search for the youtube ID (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)

Never mind I found it.

Its nothing compared to the whole wedding they had on grunting before they took it down. This one seems quite toned down and edited

He's using religion for publicity, sort of like what Matisyahu did.

I know Yossi and will give a short background before you pass judgment.

1. He's not doing MMA as a career.

2. He spoke with a very competent rav who said the fight and interview were both 100% good according to halacha and the interview was a good idea as it would probably be a kidush hashem. (So whether your own hashkafa differs you can at least respect that he spoke to HIS rav who said it was good.)

3. What he wants to do is open a kosher gym where he teaches self defense and promotes fitness in the Jewish community. He spoke with many self defense instructors who all said there are 2 ways to learn self defense properly, 1. Join the military (as most of them were ex-militray) or 2. Get in a ring/cage and learn to properly execute the training you've had. Until you are faced with real life scenarios it is all theoretics and he will not be a proper or respected teacher unless he knows how to do the techniques in real life scenarios.

4. A person that steps in the ring is fully cognizant of the fact that he will be hit. Hitting a guy doesn't mean that you want to hurt him. It is a way of staying dominant in a real life fight situation. There is a huge amount of respect involved in all of this, in fact he hung out with his defeated opponent for the rest of that day. And everyone after the fight was talking about how respectful Yossi was. (after the rounds he helped his opponent up.

5. He is a Rabbi for better or worse that's what he is as he has smicha. He has a passion for fitness and self defense. People will talk about him how they want, why should he hide who he is if he feels he is doing something that he wants in life.

Thanks for sharing.
It's easy to pass judgement quickly when you don't know a person. Easy to forget he may very well a nice great guy.

I don't want to start a back-and-forth that will turn into a sinas chinam fest. All I'll say is that I personally disagree with everything except the fact that the orthodox community needs more awareness about physical fitness.
Have a great rest of day.

I in no way have anything against being fit and healthy nor against someone following his Rav's opinion... However, he could have done the exact same thing without stressing his Rabbinate... Rabbis don't fight! (they sometimes argue)

+1. I don't know how much of it is the media seizing on that point because that's what makes it a story, and how much of it is his own self-promotion, but it seems inappropriate to bring attention to one's Jewishness or status in the rabbinate for something like this.

When the media seizes on a story they don't really care for what YOU want attention drawn to or not...
