Topic Wiki

If your video is not embedding, see if your link starts with "http:" - if it does, change it to "https:" and it will work.

If a video isn't embedded you should assume it may be inappropriate for some people.

How do I embed a Youtube video?
Simply post the YouTube URL.
Alternately (actually, this may no longer work):
Click the "youtube" button on the second row on the furthermost left side.
You will now have the words: in your editor.
Now, copy and paste the youtube video id (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0&x=y) in between the middle brackets in order for it to look like this:

and leave out this part of the link: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v="

Or you can paste the YouTube link, highlight it, and then click on the "YouTube" button. This will encase the link in the youtube tags,
Now just click "post" and you're done!

How can I search if a video has been posted here before?
This is not foolproof, but it's a good start.
Search for the youtube ID (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)

When the media seizes on a story they don't really care for what YOU want attention drawn to or not...
Note the " simple name" he goes by...

Yeah, that's pretty bad, I missed that the first time around.

+1 Again with the assumptions. 1. His trainer gave him his name. 2. Fox news contacted him! They wanted to air a story that shows MMA isn't just a bunch of thugs trying to beat people up. What better way for them to do it than show even a Rabbi is doing MMA.

Of course when he opens a gym "fame" would only help him, but that doesn't mean that's his intention. In fact it's not.

I understand things can be taken two ways, and people will always pass judgment based on how they perceive it and what their prejudices and biases are. But try and understand their could also be an understandable and good explanation for things as well.

His trainer gave him his name.
I think he could have refused the name chosen for him, and requested a change. It should be such a big deal to say he doesn't like it. Nuff said on the matter. I wish him much Hatzlacha in his gym business. (Just remember that Hashem pre-plans everyone's parnasa, no need for controversial publicity)

Neither of those points at the top carry an weight. As ybeeds mentioned, no one is forcing him to fight under that name. And no one is forcing him to agree to be interviewed.

He's doing it (the promotion/media aspect) because he thinks this is a good thing for him and for Chabad/Jews as a whole from a PR perspective. I respect him for that, I'm not saying he's a terrible person doing a terrible disservice to the Jewish people, or anything like that. But I am of the opinion that a person in that situation would be better off shunning the limelight.

When will kosher dining be more like this? Involving the guest in whole experience of food- taste, touch and smell.

I know Yossi and will give a short background before you pass judgment.

1. He's not doing MMA as a career.

2. He spoke with a very competent rav who said the fight and interview were both 100% good according to halacha and the interview was a good idea as it would probably be a kidush hashem. (So whether your own hashkafa differs you can at least respect that he spoke to HIS rav who said it was good.)

3. What he wants to do is open a kosher gym where he teaches self defense and promotes fitness in the Jewish community. He spoke with many self defense instructors who all said there are 2 ways to learn self defense properly, 1. Join the military (as most of them were ex-militray) or 2. Get in a ring/cage and learn to properly execute the training you've had. Until you are faced with real life scenarios it is all theoretics and he will not be a proper or respected teacher unless he knows how to do the techniques in real life scenarios.

4. A person that steps in the ring is fully cognizant of the fact that he will be hit. Hitting a guy doesn't mean that you want to hurt him. It is a way of staying dominant in a real life fight situation. There is a huge amount of respect involved in all of this, in fact he hung out with his defeated opponent for the rest of that day. And everyone after the fight was talking about how respectful Yossi was. (after the rounds he helped his opponent up.

5. He is a Rabbi for better or worse that's what he is as he has smicha. He has a passion for fitness and self defense. People will talk about him how they want, why should he hide who he is if he feels he is doing something that he wants in life.
+1

I know yossie as well, and have been lucky enough to hear this come from him. He is one of the most ehrnst people i ever met. He is no thug, and not a bad person. He has a lot of energy and he is using that energy for the good of the people. He believes that there is an issue among the jewish communities and he wold like to try to help the issue.

I dont see anything wrong with this as his name is the rabbi. He can be trying to make a point and show that he is not hurting people in the ring, and he is learning technique.
If you have any questions please search and then ask. PM me for detailed help.
