The impression I got was the video was staged so they could get in tape rav Steinmans opinion on the matter and the ppl questioning really agreed with him

Perhaps, but the guy's bewilderment at r steinman's suggestion that it's all Gaiva and he's subsequent question "but he's a chosheva yungerman!?" Seem pretty genuine to me.

Relax, usually a gadol speaks more refined and straight. Here he's speaking lightheartedly, maybe to say this without sounding mean. They obviously respect him and want his opinion.

They were pretty disappointed with what they got though. They were totally taken by surprise imho.

+1. They were not at all expecting that answer and were laughing because they were uncomfortable and taken aback by r shteinman's answer.

I was pretty shocked that R' Steinman was making jokes abd being funny, I've never seen him like that. It's usually R' Chaim that's masking the jokes!

Most real talmidei chachomim have incredible senses of humor. I cannot think of an exception to that.
