Topic Wiki

If your video is not embedding, see if your link starts with "http:" - if it does, change it to "https:" and it will work.

If a video isn't embedded you should assume it may be inappropriate for some people.

How do I embed a Youtube video?
Simply post the YouTube URL.
Alternately (actually, this may no longer work):
Click the "youtube" button on the second row on the furthermost left side.
You will now have the words: in your editor.
Now, copy and paste the youtube video id (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0&x=y) in between the middle brackets in order for it to look like this:

and leave out this part of the link: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v="

Or you can paste the YouTube link, highlight it, and then click on the "YouTube" button. This will encase the link in the youtube tags,
Now just click "post" and you're done!

How can I search if a video has been posted here before?
This is not foolproof, but it's a good start.
Search for the youtube ID (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)

I say the same thing about bike for chai

The only real argument to be made is that the only way they are possibly raising such sums is with all the spending they do
And the only way they have people coming back year after year.

I've heard that argument and I don't buy it fully. Is the extravagance to get people to participate or to get people to donate? The shas-a-thon has always been extravagant....which is where that argument may work. I don't think people are participating or giving more because they have hand-painted pillars or a coffee room that looks like a chalet.

I hear.
But iirc, you luuuuv going.
From a business/ fundraising pov, the way to go is to be so ahead of your game, that other orgs' won't even try to outdo you.

I luuuuv going for the learning and comradery.  Every year I'm saddened by the waste and strongly consider not going but then I remember the the root cause they are fundrasing for. I understand if they want to make the lomdim feel special by an extravagant meal (and shwekey lol) but I think we're past that now.

And the only way they have people coming back year after year.

A) -1000000 almost everyone there has a personal reason for being there. Honestly, if they are that shallow and spend most of their time drinking coffee and taking pictures, they shouldn't be there.
B) The slots fill up within seconds. The wait-list is never depleted. I am confident they will always be able to fill every slot.

I don't mean to knock the shasathon specifically. It's just the only personal experience I have.I think all tzedakas should tone things down and put the money where it's needed. Obviously I'm wrong because they all do it.

This makes me sad. Really highlights how much money is wasted.

some of what you seeing going on there is subsidized or sponsored
and i think people like to see where there money goes and the way to show it is by making a event highlighting stories or people

that besides that point that everything these days needs to be toned down a notch or two

where would that money be going otherwise?

Definitely this...

Bike for Chai is the largest, Jewish experiential fundraiser in the country, and possibly the world.

With enough caveats anything can be the largest of its category.

I actually remember seeing the videos last year and feeling like they actually cut down from how extravagant it used to be
Could be it was a false impression or that they are not making as much etc just was what I remember thinking
