Topic Wiki

If your video is not embedding, see if your link starts with "http:" - if it does, change it to "https:" and it will work.

If a video isn't embedded you should assume it may be inappropriate for some people.

How do I embed a Youtube video?
Simply post the YouTube URL.
Alternately (actually, this may no longer work):
Click the "youtube" button on the second row on the furthermost left side.
You will now have the words: in your editor.
Now, copy and paste the youtube video id (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0&x=y) in between the middle brackets in order for it to look like this:

and leave out this part of the link: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v="

Or you can paste the YouTube link, highlight it, and then click on the "YouTube" button. This will encase the link in the youtube tags,
Now just click "post" and you're done!

How can I search if a video has been posted here before?
This is not foolproof, but it's a good start.
Search for the youtube ID (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)

It is amazing what this "anonymous donor" has done in the last years. I think it is remarkable how he even more so decided to let this be done by the police this year. Especially with the on going situation between civilians and the police in the US this is a great way to bring them together and foster positive feelings between them.

There was actually a much cooler video floating around (not sure if it was posted in this thread or not), where the cop shmoozed up the driver, finding out what they want for the holidays (or what they wanted to buy their kids), and while the cop pretends to be in the car writing the ticket, a team at a store nearby buys and wraps those items. They bring it to the traffic stop and the cop gives them the gifts they just said a moment ago they wanted.

Yup, that's the one. For some reason I had in my head that it was Boston, but that's probably because there's also a Lowell in Massachusetts (as opposed to Lowell, Michigan where this took place).

Amazingness starts at 3:14.
Really cool.
Something I always wondered. Why is there no issue of wake turbulence when flying in formation? Is it because the wake only turns turbulent after the formation has passed?

Wake turbulence spreads downwards. If you fly directly behind another plane at the same level you shouldn't have a problem.

It's exactly the opposite, if you look closely you'll see that the planes in back are slightly lower than the ones in front of them.
I don't remember all the details, but there's a Mythbusters episode where they test various flying formations, from what I remember flying directly behind is the worst.

VORTEX BEHAVIOR.
...

c. Flight tests have shown that the vortices from larger (transport category) aircraft sink at a rate of several hundred feet per minute, slowing their descent and diminishing in strength with time and distance behind the generating aircraft. Atmospheric turbulence hastens breakup. Pilots should fly at or above the preceding aircraft's flightpath, altering course as necessary to avoid the area behind and below the generating aircraft. However, vertical separation of 1,000 feet may be considered safe.
