LOL as if the plane has feelings and you need to give "respect" to her.
This and all planes are private property owned and bought by people/companies to bring them in money, and when they go out of service it's time to make the last little money possible by selling it for scrap metal, that's the whole thing!! Very simple!!
Not sure where that word respect fell in here!?!

747s have lots of fans and nostalgia. Is this indeed the best way to make money out of it? Recently one was sunk to create a diving attraction. Is there that much value in the scrap metal?

Dunno if this is the best way to make money, but I do know that it was funny to me that people feel that you need to give respect to ... an airplane

This is an old excuse
My father is a contractor/builder he once went to Israel and he davend in zichron moshe shtiblech someone came over to him and asked him what he is doing so he told him that he is building houses, didn't take long and the whole zichron moshe where standing in line asking tzedakah, so the next time he went and someone asked him what he is doing he told a בתים מאַכער and no one came over to him anymore (true story)
