Topic Wiki

If your video is not embedding, see if your link starts with "http:" - if it does, change it to "https:" and it will work.

If a video isn't embedded you should assume it may be inappropriate for some people.

How do I embed a Youtube video?
Simply post the YouTube URL.
Alternately (actually, this may no longer work):
Click the "youtube" button on the second row on the furthermost left side.
You will now have the words: in your editor.
Now, copy and paste the youtube video id (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0&x=y) in between the middle brackets in order for it to look like this:

and leave out this part of the link: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v="

Or you can paste the YouTube link, highlight it, and then click on the "YouTube" button. This will encase the link in the youtube tags,
Now just click "post" and you're done!

How can I search if a video has been posted here before?
This is not foolproof, but it's a good start.
Search for the youtube ID (youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)

Floo network take you to the wrong spot again?
It's a known problem. That tends to happen when you read the books out of order.

This is kind of amazing. Where's @ExGingi on where his allegiance lies?

Just to put some final thoughts on the topic.

I actually never paid much attention to how the Israelis butcher this until it was pointed out here, as I usually don't sing along. After the posts here I made a point to listen in 770, and boy is it bad!

In general I find that Israelis are more likely to read לשון הקודש incorrectly.

Here is the possuk with full nekudos and taamim:

וְעַד־זִקְנָה֙ אֲנִ֣י ה֔וּא וְעַד־שֵׂיבָ֖ה אֲנִ֣י אֶסְבֹּ֑ל אֲנִ֤י עָשִׂ֙יתִי֙ וַאֲנִ֣י אֶשָּׂ֔א וַאֲנִ֥י אֶסְבֹּ֖ל וַאֲמַלֵּֽט:

The words וְעַד in the possuk are connected to the following word with a מקף, indicating that for purposes of stress, they are to be treated as one with the following word, which is the one that has the taam (for stress).

While on the topic, one of the most egregious butchering of a verse is what is often done to קרבה אל נפשי גאלה while sung as part of לכה דודי, joining the words קרבה and אל, pausing, and joining נפשי and גאלה. While it is our mesorah not to be medakdek in the proper emphasis of syllables during Davening, with one exception that I can think of the Rebbe was medakdek in the punctuation of sentences and verses in Davening to match פירוש המילות and the punctuation based on taamim.

There's a guy in my neighborhood who davens everything according to the structure of the sentence, even (or maybe especially) when davening for the amud. Let me tell you - it is jarring. Some of it is that we intrinsically fudge the structures of sentences to make it sound better, but most of it is the fact that it sounds soooooo different from what everyone else does.

How about kedusha on shabbos where most chazzanim say
אז בקול רעש גדול
Then full pause followed by
אדיר וחזק משמיעים קול
which seems to completely corrupt the apparent meaning?

Indeed. As well as על כל, pause, דברי שירות ותשבחות, pause, דוד בן ישי עבדך משיח where כל דברי is a סמיכות as evidenced by the fact that the word כל is with a קמץ rather than a חולם. Same goes for תשבחות which has a שווא under the ב rather than a קמץ due to the סמיכות to the next word.

That being said, given the Chazzan I usually daven with on Shabbos, I am somewhat desensitized during Shabbos Davening.

On ימים נוראים I used to enjoy Chazzan Motte Berkowitz so much, especially due to the fact that he while matching tunes to parts of Davening, he would make sure to stick to the punctuation. You could actually hear him paying attention to פירוש המילות. Unfortunately, he barely goes to the עמוד anymore.

Do you know if he has any recordings of davening?
