A like button implies that one agrees or likes the notion mentioned. A dislike button allows a poster to voice dislike without actually delineating which point or why they dislike it. Unlike a like, which often doesn't need an independent explanation, a dislike is missing the main substance - the reason for the disapproval. If someone dislikes a post, it is better for them to articulate that opinion through a written post, in which they give reason for their sentiment.

That said, a dislike button will only infuse negativity while stifling honest conversation, while a like button is a handy tool to voice approval without having to reiterate the OP's idea.

It's a humorous parallel, but it's not really comparable. Anyone can voice dissent openly. You just have to manually do it, instead of having a little shortcut that encourages one to not explain themselves.
