Generally speaking vz phones cannot be used worldwide because they are cdma so good chance that's why the guy thinks they don't offer codes. I do not know more than that (BTW some bb's are worldphones)

It should be able to be used as a wifi source for anything... (possibly also via usb)

No... Tethering is an extra charge (or you can root your phone, I am actually posting now from a cr-48 tethered to a rooted htc evo
