Missed Flight in Casablanca
« on: May 09, 2017, 12:39:18 PM »
A friend missed his connecting flight (fell asleep at the gate) to LHR in CMN.

Not only will they not put him in the next flight, they consider him a no show, which they say invalidates his return from LHR to JFK.

Anything we can do for him?

Which airline?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

It's Morocco, tell him to get some money out (not too much!) and to give it to the agent telling him it will invalidate its return trip, he'll be on the next flight in no time.

There should be a third-world-country strategies and anecdotes thread where people should share such experiences, and explain how these things are done.  ;)

Thanks. He's a timid little guy. I'll let you know if he gets the courage and is successful

Remind him that there's nothing illegal about it. It's not like he's trying to bribe an official or anything like that, just asking for someone with the ability to do something to do the right thing. Give him the right pep-talk so he will do it right.

No need for courage, the guy is clearly waiting for him to offer. Should start with $10/100 Dirham. He might get "ripped off" if he's timid but it'll still be cheaper than anything else.

So the "bribe" didn't work. The rep in the airport sent him to Expedia. Expedia wouldn't budge. He booked a new ticket and is hoping for a resolution from Amex.

Why would he get anything from amex if he missed his flight and it was his fault?

1) He probably won't get anything.
2) As for the legitimacy of the claim - airlines will most often put you on the next flight if you miss a connection. Especially seeing as he was sitting at the gate waiting, and happened to doze off. Presumably, they were calling his name before they closed boarding, and they didn't happen to notice the one dude sitting at an otherwise empty gate sleeping? I know of people who have been woken up at the gate by gate agents who assumed they were the missing passengers.
