#1 seems like your fault
#2 they messed up your accounts and fixed it all, I don't know what this has to do with your issue honestly.

ETA: Ask hyatt for some points in lieu of the certs

Notify you of what, that your certs were expiring? They merged your accounts in September, you had ample time to check the expiration date of the nights in your account. The certs expire 12 months from when they're issued, it states that in the application, I'm not sure exactly what you think either chase or hyatt did wrong here.

Regarding your second question, that probably has nothing to do with the merging of your accounts and you should call Hyatt as soon as possible to make sure your account isn't compromised.

Where does it say certs expire 12 months after issue ? I didnt see that when I applied, I never got a email from hyatt or chase about the certs

thanks! But how can I get at least what the card nets now in points? had I opened the card now i'd have gotten 40k points that dont expire. mind you, 40k is a terrible value imho and i'd never had opened the card.

I don't know why 40k is so bad. I can frequently get 2c in value out of the points..$800 for signup is pretty good in my book

I am only seeing that now. 12k points for hyatt by sfo instead of $350. ended up using my anniversary cert though its a bad use, i'll switch if I get more points.

Bad use for a $350 or 12k hotel stay? I understand it's not a cat 4 but it's definitely not a bad use.

Well,  $350 value for anniversary cert is great, just redeemed IHG cert for $450. But in terms of points, its better to use 12k points here where a cert could be used in a hotel thats 15-20k points right ?

Not sure where you're getting 20k from.

In terms of gray market value, i think 12k points is worth more than a cert. IMBW.
