Thanks for your additional input, karen.

I am starting to think maybe I should just keep with my original plan and put them into CO.

Problem is, as has been noted before, 1st class is just not as easy to come by *A carriers (especially from LAX, or anyway out west really).
As long as you're willing to connect then even from the West Coast it shouldn't be too big of a problem finding availability.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I guess, but since I am far out I would rather the long haul be in FC on something like LH/LX as opposed to flying to ORD/JFK, etc. to only be on LH/LX for a few hours.

If its LH/LX you're looking for, ex-LAX is going to be an issue. Plenty of very nice FC products to Asia...

I would say CO, purely for the fact that in a few months that option will be gone. I'm sure another BA promo will be back.
BTW, VS, while not quite F, is great and a very good value with CO miles. Ex-LAX/SFO often very possible.
And check out their lounge in SFO, something very "alternative"...

Since this 50% was just posted on the main site today I thought I might ask around for people's thoughts on transferring my MR Points to BA instead of CO.

We are looking to go to Israel next summer--need 4 tickets. We have 200,000 Amex and 150,000 CO. We were thinking about transfering the Amex to BA and redeeming on a partner.

Maybe it will be worth it to spend $ on fuel charges to save the CO for a different trip?

Any idea how much the fuel charges are on partners such as Ibera?

Thanks

@ Karen, your best post ever!!!

Yes, it is very nice.  Looks just like the post from yesterday at The Points Guy blog.   Don't we give credit on such things or is that forbidden ?

I was wondering the same thing.
Amex to CO (the end is 9/30) or BA bc the 50% wrinkle is super enticing. I would undoubtedly try to get to SA & Australia in the next 3 years. Currently I have 230k Amex, 100k BA, 55k co, 75k spg and I also have 130k AA plus some others that arent relevant to this convo. It sounds like the biggest downside to BA over CO is Europe awards and Israel. Is that accurate? Also how is BA in terms of award tickets in someone else's name (for me + the mrs). Is there an additional fee for that?

a transfer is not. but he believes if you transfer they watch your acc. for suspicious activity (purchasing tickets in other ppl name ect...) then shut you down. but if your ba acc. is clean you wont have problems imho
how about transferring into a clean account followed by suspicious activity?

Yes, you say that but this is not the same as giving credit to your information source.     I see you were willing to take the nice compliment from Asher but not the small criticism from me...

(I let it drop now.)

Personally, I don't care compliment or criticism.  I was quoted what Asher said, just for fun. I don't take those things serious.  You are being funny.

Since this 50% was just posted on the main site today I thought I might ask around for people's thoughts on transferring my MR Points to BA instead of CO.

I was originally going to transfer them to CO at the end of the week and then cancel out my Platinum. However, now with this bonus is it more worthwhile to transfer to BA?

Pros
50% bonus - huge!
Can still get to Israel on BA
Multiple stop-overs
Offers OW RTW trips which I think are pretty nice

Cons
More expensive redemptions
Miles expire
Fuel surcharges

One more piece of information - no immediate plans for mileage usage in the next 6-12 months.

Thanks for any and all advice!

If not sure what to do ,split the risk ,try to fig out what you will need in miles for each -ba and united -- and transfer the miles

as far as ba expire --if u keep ba credit card and use that will solve problem -- also since 3 years exp --at end of third yr make a reservation far out that will give you extra yr.-- also if you cancel that resv it will cost money but i blv it keeps the miles current for another 3 more yrs
