Time for a DD post on the United Club card. With $100 off, after a few bookings, its not so expensive at all.
First year free in-branch IIRC, although subject to 5/24.

that would be social.

Ok, ok. I meant should I say something "special" as the reason I should be charged. I actually asked nicely all three times, the first time I got a no, the second time I asked if it could be waived because it was within 24 hours of booking and got a no, and the third time before I said anything at all, she said that because i was in the special "risk free" period - I.e. 24 hours, there would be no charge. So end of story, it does still work.

Did you book an award for a few weeks out and then ask to change it to an award within the next few weeks?

The first two times you called and asked them to waive the close in fee?
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

Sounds like it.

The trick here is to just ask them to switch the booking for you. Don't mention any fee, in fact if they start mentioning it tell them it's within 24 hours and there shouldn't even be a fee.
