Without a Platinum card, it seems to me that the Sapphire Reserve and Freedom Unlimited is a better value for points. (1.5 X 1.5 = 2.25). Sure they have different partners and it's good to have a a diversified stash of points, but let's not overstate the value of this solid card.

Assuming you redeem @ 1.5 for travel, but I assume most redeem by transferring to partners. And the beauty this is that it transfers with no AF and you are earning 2ppd over the CFU 1.5

Generally, transferring to partners is what really sets points earning cards apart from cashback earning cards. I think it's safe to say most of us can arrange a value of at least 1.5 cpp through transferring. So, especially with the depth of airline partners MR has, and common Amex offers that let you stretch for additional MR, I think this is a no-brainer for 50K in purchases annually, before FU. Of course, that's before we even talk about the balance-carrying perk this has for your float.. but that's a whole other personal finance shmooze
