Having been to Svalbard and Antarctica, I can assure you there is no such thing as a vast frozen dead wilderness.
Well, except Siberia, I'd imagine :D
Well, let's see what his camera will pull off there. :) I recall that the Kamchatka peninsula was on his bucket list. (Granted, it is of similar topography of Alaska and geographically close.)

ty amazing trip reports and even more amazing photos.
Would it be accurate that in a regular year you would not have been able to rebook for the next day as it's generally sold out and only because of covid 2 summers ago there were very few tourists so you were able to do so .

Siberia is very far from dead...

That being said, the Greenland ice cap and the Antarctic polar plateau are definitely "vast frozen dead wildernesses". But random birds have showed up at the South Pole in the past, so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It is often possible to rebook even during the busy season, there are always cancellations and planes that don't go out full. That being said, Covid definitely helped (especially with a group).

when i was there i found that the big outfitters were very rigid in regards to rescheduling.
on the other hand the small outfitters were more flexible and accommodating, because they can just take a bigger plane or rearrange flights...

If they're the ones cancelling, it's up to them to reschedule you as best as possible. But yeah, the smaller guys are way more pleasant to deal with.

The biggest operator in town yelled at me and slammed down the phone when I dared ask if they'd give me a discount when booking 25pax at nearly $1000 each. So yeah, they're just a delightful company all around.
