Additional question:

Since flying on a regular basis is really not nogeya by me, I have not been paying much attention to mileage programs / status. With this upcoming trip (summer 2014) to E"Y, what (if even possible) can I do to attain any elite status? For example, if I take the Delta flight, there are discounts for EC, or preferred seating is free. Perhaps there are other benefits I do not know about.

I imagine luggage should not be an issue with the amount of tickets I am purchasing.

Any suggestions?

ETA: As great as it sounds, racking up miles the "good ole fashion way" is not possible.

I am looking for 4 tickets from LA to NY on Dec 22 (any flight after 12 pm) and return eve of Dec 24 (latest flight out). Nonstop. Best I have found is $500. We have a family simcha on the 23rd. Should I just book these at this price because of holiday season or does anyone have any other ideas??
