I bought I business class ticket from EWR to TLV with united approximately 2 weeks ago, and I may want to change the dates to leave from EWR a day later and return a day later, when I called they said it costs $500 to change is there another option?

Im looking dor ticket to EY on Chol Hamoed. Iwould like to flt to TXL on with BA on Air Berlin. No availability to TLV. There are cheap flights on Air Serbia through Belgrade. Has anyone done that? Is it a safe place? I know there are those who would have no problem with it but how does it compare to going through Istanbul?
