I have had my TRAVEL AGENT reinstate a no show intl ticket, and change for a later date.

I spoke with TAM and they said very clearly that the ticket will cancel if I miss the first leg although as Dan pointed out there is no knowing if she is right. On vacation with my wife I will certainly not risk trying to prove her wrong.

the point is that for a reg. traveler the general rules are you can't do that... if one or two exceptions allow it that's an exception....

It's not for me, I'll have to ask.  Timing is specific so it may need to be non-stop.  Cheapest non-stop I found was $1600

just curious, when u arrive from overseas in the usa , u clear customs on ur first port of entry. does the same apply when stopping in usa on the way to canada (as above)?

i see on matrix it shows about $1760 or so. Another option u can do is buy a RT from ORD - PEK for $1490 on Hainan and buy a separate RT on AA thru Avios - 9,000 +$5.00
or you can buy a the first flight for $1655 frok CLE-PEK-ORD (thru ORD) and buy a OW for the way back from ORD - CLE on AA for 4,500 avios + $2.50
