Do I need to actually set up the phone or once it says Verizon in top left I'm good to go?
I got text "The device is locked. Please return to the store of purchase for an associate to properly scan and unlock the device."

You should be able to get to the main home screen while the vzw post paid sim is in the phone. But searchguy just mentioned now they aren't unlockable....?

Would it depend when it was shipped to store? Is it possible mine was successfuly unlocked? Any way to know for sure?
Would Jailbraking unlock the phone?

Yes. Confirmed to Aug 31 as of last Thursday apparently when the memo went out. Got an email now.

Only supervisors were privy to the extended date memo. The website will not show it until July 31. Ask for a supervisor to confirm it if you so choose.

From DDMS "-After 10/1/17, you can upgrade to a new Sprint phone by leasing or purchasing it in monthly installments – you’ll still enjoy your free year of service. Any upgrades prior to 10/1/17 will require a plan change and you’ll lose the remaining free months in your year of free service."

If data is not working on current phone, will they let me switch to a different phone? not purchased through Sprint?

Originally I activated a phone that I did not even have in posessjon . I just used a qualifying imei, after a month I got a hold of a Verizon iPhone 7 plus.
I called customer service and they could not do it, because the imei was not in their system. So they told me to call the special number that takes care of this plan, I called that number and I was told that they only do activations but no modification.
I called back that special number and I was told that I can't change because the previous phone was a u phone 6 and this is a iPhone 7 so its considered a upgrade

, they said that I can activate a new line of I want. I hung up and went online and changed it vie online chat no problem.

You can change phones no problem. Just confirm with the rep that they aren't touching ur plan.

I just wrote my experience.
They told me that in the agreement it stated that I can't switch device before 120 days

I hear ya. Typical rep who has no clue.
An upgrade is not the same as a standard swap.
