I was wondering the same thing (though we'll be there one month earlier).  We're also doing a few days in San Juan, and I'm trying to decide where to go for the remaining two days. How did you decide on the Embassy Suites/Dorado. Did you consider the Grand Melia or Wyndham in Rio Grande?

I chose the Embassy Suites because I'm using my Hilton honor points. I chose he sheraton bc I'm using Starwood points. Let me know if you find anything for kids when you're there.

I know. I would love to stay there, but my "boss" wants to be in/near the city.

kosher food
Then again, my "boss" has never been there before, so she probably doesn't have the best sense of the pros and cons.

when you say in the City, do you mean where chabad is located or in old San Juan or ..... ?

Any regrets on staying in that area?

Which area would you recommend staying in?

I'm going in a month. Staying over the weekend at Embassy Suites in Isla Verde (near Chabad). Then may go to Grand Melia in Fajardo for a couple of days. Seems to be a good deal on Grand Melia through BookIt.com (assuming I'm right about the "4.5-Star Rio Grande Beachfront Mystery Resort" that they're offering).

I came across this local groupon-type of site http://www.gustazos.com/ which seems to have some good deals on hotels, events, etc., including tickets for a Matisyahu concert on 1/31.  I noticed some of the listings say local residents only, so watch out for that, but odds are no one enforces that anyway.

Anyone go to Vieques recently? Did you go by airplane or by Boat?
I hear the boat situation is pretty bad.

Thanks

for those that went kayaking in the Bio-luminescent Bay, did they do it in the Fajardo area or Vieques? Can anyone elaborate on the differences?

If it's not Gan Melia, it's the Wyndham Rio Mar, which is a good bet as well (much nicer beach at Wyndham than at Gran Melia)

How much more money is the plane?

boat is $4 (one way for 2 people) plus cab will prob be $40
flight is $72 (one way for 2 people) plus cab will be $75

But flight is a lot more reliable.

There's no way it's the Wyndham - They wouldn't offer it that cheap. But Bookit is now showing the mystery resort for $104, and the Grand Melia for $109. I booked a cancellable ($19.95 penalty) reservation at $109.

This site http://www.gustazos.com/ (similar to groupon) also seems to be offering pretty good deals on different hotels. They email you their new offers every day if you sign up.

Does anyone have any angles for a good deal on on the El Conquistador (other than the priceline/hotwire route, which doesn't seem that great)?

thx

Don't know how you could beat Priceline. That's usually the cheapest the hotel will accept....

I'm pretty sure that bookit.com is cheaper than priceline for the Gran Melia
