Chinese Visa
« on: June 15, 2017, 03:12:51 PM »
Anyone with dual citizenship managed to use their non-US passport for Chinese Visa when applying in the US?
It would be a saving of $100. They ask for proof of legal status in the US, which in my case is my US passport. Catch 22

Can't schedule your trip as a transit?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I will try, but it's no proof of immigration status. Green card or H-1/J-1 visa would work.

Fly to Hong Kong or Bangkok and apply for your Chinese visa at an embassy there?

If you are going to Shenzhen, many nationalities are eligible for a free single-entry five-day Special Economic Zone Tourism Visa, e.g. at the Luohu border.  You can also apply for a full China visa (single and double entry only) at the Luohu border.

I am going to be inland during a 3 day Yom Tov+Shabbos so the visa-free 72 hrs doesn't work. I don't see a way to avoid the visa. Simply wanted to use a non-US passport.

I am answering my own question  :P
They allowed using a non-US passport. I gave them a photocopy of my US passport as a proof of legal status in the US.
Visa cost: $30
Saving $110  ;D ;D ;D
