Hey Dan, do you have any Barclays links?  Was just curious because I'm looking to expand beyond the Amex/Chase/Citi options and I try to always use your links when I can (as should everyone who benefits from this site!).

Why not the US Airway from Barclay? It's churnable.

I was denied for Barclay US Airways 40k offer. I'm assuming it's due to my opening a Choice Privilege card 2 months ago.
Anyone know the reconsideration department (not Business dept.) number?

866.369.1283 it worked 2 out of 3 times for me.
they have very diff standards then chase! they had a problem with all my "sufficient credit"
and couldn't see reason for more

Someone PM'd me that when calling Barclay's reconsideration department, they pull your credit a second time.
Can anyone else confirm this? Is there to avoid this (besides not calling and not getting the card)?

Nope, it clearly is not an official policy, as it happened to me on two out of perhaps 30 such calls.

One time i realized while still on the phone because the CSR started telling me something from my TU report and the denial said they pulled from Experian, i started to take her to task for doing another pull and she got real defensive and kept repeating that if i asked to be reconsidered than i must have meant that i was willing to get another pull.

The other time i did a 3bm and got only 2 cards approved, then on the 30th day i finally got the 3rd card approved. A couple days later i see on my credit report another hard pull for the day i got the 3rd card approved.

I don't think there is anyway to fight these pulls even though they are technically illegal as they have some sort of bunk that allows a bank that you have an existing account with to pull your credit without asking you, and there is no way to prove that they pulled your credit for this card as apposed to an old one. (if someone knows otherwise PLEASE share)

Another time i asked a CSR if i was eligible for a CL increase, she said she needs to check. I told her i don't want to do it if there is a hard pull, she said nope, only soft. I said go ahead... she denied me AND did a hard pull.

Data point: I think both times that i got a hard pull when requesting recon, i was speaking to the credit analysis department and not the regular recon line.

Even if they do, what exactly is wrong? Doesn't it only lower the credit score 2-10 points? And shouldn't I gain that back pretty soon?

My one experience with them is that they will do a second pull.
They also appear to be stricter about approving more than 1 card every x days. I'm not sure if x is 60 or 90 though.
Google it and you might find info on other sites.

to clarify got new spg personal and biz card again, left *wood # blank....both were instantly approved...didnt get points yet, but was successful last year with same thing....last churn before this was 6+ months ago

Anyone else churn it  in less than 2 years  and get the points ? my last star was 18 months ago and i knew can get amex bonus after 2yrs t/4 was waiting -- i had worked  apply for personal card wait one year  then cncl  and apply for  biz card  -- repeat every yr so get   get points
