For example when making a purchase in shop rite your credit card has no clue if I bought a chocolate bar or a container of milk or 5k worth of gcs, it counts as a regular purchase in most instances..
I believe that is incorrect, they can see more information then that, especially Amex who does their own processing.

For us beginner ignoramous's.....

Can anyone point me where to read the basics, how to rack up points, should I cancel cards after AF kicks in (will it hurt my score....?)? Does the 3 browser method still work? Can I apply for 3 of the same card at the same time with that method? Anywhere to read all about such questions and the many other people like myself have? Thanks in advance!

Some of that info might be outdated.

With many chase cards there’s the 5/24 rule.
http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=60699.0 Important to keep in mind if you’re applying for any of those & you’re under 5/24 to do them first.

Feel free to ask in the Misc Credit Card Questions thread anything on your mind.
Regarding which cards to keep & pay AF & which to cancel it all depends on which you’re gonna be using all the time & what the points/miles are worth to you.

To answer your questions simply
1. Follow the links TimT provided.
2. If you can't get a retention offer, and the AF is not worth the card, try to downgrade to a free option, of not cancel the card, it'll barely make a dent, unless it's your first card. And follow the links TimT provided
3. Yes. Tho not so simple for the most part, so follow the links TimT provided
4. No
5. follow the links TimT provided
Hope that helps

Of course the more recent posts will be more up to date. If you aren't sure if something is accurate, or still in effect, or if something isn't there, you can just ask.

@Dan is there a way to get a search option on cardratimgs.com? I was looking for the Ink Cash link and without a search option it was kind of hard. (I wound up getting it via a post about the CIC)
