same situation as BAHayman. Applied for 3 cards: sapphire, united 30k, freedom and was denied all 3 because I already have a continental chase which is 6 months old.  called recon twice and both times, they said they can't approve the united cc because of limited credit history ( 2 years) and 5 cards. They keep mentioning that I applied for 3 cards at the same time and that is considered a credit risk.

The 2nd time I called recon, they knew about the 1st call because of a note in my file.

The note is on all three apps? Try calling with each appID separately.

Yup each time I called I mentioned a different reference number. I called once and didn't have the reference numbers so they asked for my ssn, once I gave that they said they couldn't approve any as they saw all 3 apps, I said thanks and hung up and called back with the reference numbers so they don't see the other apps...

Yeah, I called recon and was told to call them. Not sure yet what exactly they do. I'll update after I've called them.

For this reason I typically (when you don't know your appIDs) suggest just calling to inquire about app status with your SSN, this way you get the appIDs and it's unlikely it'll get noted that you called for recon.

about the credit freezes that were discussed in this thread alot - is there any reason that you would pay to freeze/unfreeze instead of claiming identity theft? anything to lose?

Identity theft is a PIT@ (Pain In The @...), they require a notarized affidavit that has to sent in by mail, might be worth it to pay the few dollars for most people.

@miles
IME consolidating cards didn't need a hard pull. Maybe the csr meant a soft pull

Open 3 diff browsers at the same time.  Fill them all out with your details.  They don't have to all be sent the exact millisecond but you fill them out and then hit submit on each one.  All within a short amount of time is fine.

It might make sense to be a victim of identity theft, as is seems it'll make freezing and unfreezing your reports free for life. The links for initiating a freeze online may not be current in that article, here are the current links:

So how can we become victims? Does anyone here wannu steal my Identity...

Were you never a victim of a data breach like the recent Epsilon or Citi breaches? I'm not saying those do or don't qualify, but you can be a bit creative ;)

Yup each time I called I mentioned a different reference number. I called once and didn't have the reference numbers so they asked for my ssn, once I gave that they said they couldn't approve any as they saw all 3 apps, I said thanks and hung up and called back with the reference numbers so they don't see the other apps...

Yeah.. the thing is, there's two numbers in the first post  of this thread: 888-270-2127 and 888-245-0625. The latter is the credit analyst reconsideration. When I saw my first denial letter, it was past 8 pm, so I called the 2nd number and even though I gave my reference number, they were able to see my entire profile and they made a note on my United 30k application. Then, I tried recon 5 times on this card and it didn't work because they knew.

I called the first number my 2nd app- freedom card- and it worked! But when I called recon for my Sapphire card, they knew - prolly because there was a wait on my 270-2127 call and they transferred me to the credit analysts? I don't know. Now I have a 6k limit on chase with 2 cards= 4k continental cc, 2k freedom. and they are not ready to offer me anymore credit because "they are the largest lender" and "repeated requests".

Funny, I applied to two citi cards in my first 3bm (technically, 5 bm:)  and was approved for the 75k aa for 12.5k limit. So.. I'm not sure how to proceed here. I see two options:

1. call up chase after the 12.5k limit posts on my report and say they are not my largest lender.
2. convert this 6k into 5k for sapphire (that's the minimum on the preferred card) and 500, 500 on continental and freedom. Then close continental and switch to United.

Any advice, wise DDFs?
This is the only way I can get the 50k UR + 30k United miles bonus at this point. Plus, I get to have the now famous Chase Trifecta.
